Cotton Research

Filter Trials by Topic:

Cotton Nitrogen Management

Leads: Dr. Ejaz Dar, Kulpreet Singh, & Nkem Nwosu

Testing to increase enhanced efficiency and nitrogen uptake by testing various rates and placement (band vs. broadcast) of nitrogen fertilizers.

Cotton CRF Blend

Lead Student: Akash Shah

Optimize nitrogen fertilization in dryland cotton by testing various blends of controlled-release fertilizer and urea. The trial assesses cotton growth, yield, and nitrogen use efficiency across blend ratios.

Cotton Potassium Rates

Lead Researcher: Eajaz Dar

Evaluate multiple potassium fertilizer rates in cotton to optimize yield while minimizing potassium leaching into Florida water bodies. The trial quantifies plant growth, yield, and nutrient losses under varying K application rates to refine UF/IFAS recommendation guidelines.

Cotton Mesh Bags

Lead Student: Akash Shah

Characterize the nitrogen release patterns of controlled-release fertilizers in dryland cotton using mesh bag trials. Data will help refine timing and rates for CRF applications.

STEP Cotton

Lead Researcher: Megan Hammond

The Florida Stakeholder Engagement Program (STEP) promotes the adoption of science-based Best Management Practices (BMPs) in cotton production through farm management competitions. The program highlights input use efficiency and profitability while also supporting outreach and education.

Cotton Variety Trial

Lead Person: Moo Brown

An annual large-plot cotton demonstration trial with seed partners Deltapine™, NexGen™, PhytoGen™, and Stoneville™ to evaluate new hybrids. We publish variety evaluation reports at the end of each season to guide growers in seed selection
